Kilometer Conversion Table

This page provides conversion factors and formulas for conversion of length expressed in kilometers to other units - millimeter, centimeter, decimeter, meter, inch, foot, yard, mile, nautical mile.

How to convert units:
In order to covert a measurement in kilometers to one of the units listed in the table below, simply multiply the length value in kilometers by the conversion factor value listed in the corresponding row. Alternatively, use the formula provided in the rightmost column.

In a situation where a direct conversion factor is not available, the following general unit conversion approach can be used.
Let's say, we have a value L_u1 expressed in one unit and would like to convert it to another unit - L_u2. We also know the basic correlation between the units: B_u1 is equal to B_u2.
Then L_u2 can be calculated as: L_u2 = L_u1 × B_u2 ÷ B_u1

For example:
We have L_km = 5 km and would like to find an equivalent in miles - L_mi. The correlation between the units is: 1.609344 kilometers is equal to 1 mile, which means: B_km = 1.609344 km and B_mi = 1 mi
Using the formula listed above, we can find the length in miles: L_mi = 5 km × 1 mi ÷ 1.609344 km = 3.10685596 mi (approximately)
