How to convert units:
In order to covert a measurement in centimeters to one of the units listed in the table below, simply multiply the length
value in centimeters by the conversion factor value listed in the corresponding row. Alternatively, use the formula provided
in the rightmost column.
In a situation where a direct conversion factor is not available, the following general unit conversion approach can be used.
Let's say, we have a value Lu1 expressed in one unit and would like to convert it to another unit -
Lu2. We also know the basic correlation between the units: Bu1 is equal to Bu2.
Then Lu2 can be calculated as:
Lu2 = Lu1 × Bu2 ÷ Bu1
For example:
We have Lcm = 50 cm and would like to find an equivalent in yards - Lyd.
The correlation between the units is: 1 yard is equal to 91.44 centimeters, which means: Bcm = 91.44 cm and
Byd = 1 yd
Using the formula listed above, we can find the length in yards:
Lyd = 50 cm × 1 yd ÷ 91.44 cm = 0.546806649 yd (approximately)
