About Ontario Sales Tax Credit (OSTC)

The Ontario sales tax credit (OSTC) is a tax-free payment designed to help low and moderate income Ontario residents with the sales tax they pay. OSTC is a part of the Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB) program which also includes Northern Ontario Energy Credit and Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit.

For payments based on the 2024 income tax and benefit return (July 2025 to June 2026), OSTC provides a maximum annual credit of $371 for each adult and each child in a family. For single individuals with no children, the credit will be reduced by 4% of the adjusted net income over $28,506. For single parents, or married or living in a common-law relationship couples, the credit will be reduced by 4% of the adjusted family net income over $35,632. These payments are being issued on the 10th of each month, starting in July 2025. If the OTB annual entitlement is $360 or less, it will be issued in one lump-sum payment in the first payment month (usually July).

To qualify for the 2025 benefit year (July 2025 - June 2026), at some time before June 1, 2025, you must be an Ontario resident and at least one of the following:

  • 19 years of age or older;
  • currently or previously married or in a common-law relationship;
  • a parent who lives or previously lived with a child.
