About Prince Edward Island Sales Tax Credit

The Prince Edward Island sales tax credit (PEISTC) is a tax-free payment to low and modest income households to help offset the increase in the sales tax.

The P.E.I. sales tax credit (also called HST credit) program provides for a maximum annual amount of $110.00 for an individual plus, if applicable, $55.00 for a spouse, common-law partner or an eligible dependant. There is also a supplement of 0.5% (one cent for every two dollars) of adjusted family net income over $30,000.00, up to a maximum of $55.00. The total of the above is reduced by 2% (by two cents for every dollar) of adjusted family net income over $50,000.00.

Eligible Prince Edward Island residents do not have to apply for the credit. The Canada Revenue Agency will determine eligibility and will issue the credit to all eligible individuals. However, individuals must file their annual income tax return in order to receive the PEI sales tax credit.

The payment is combined with the quarterly payment of the federal GST/HST credit.
